BETHEL MOTOR SPEEDWAY RAINOUT SETS STAGE FOR A BUSY END TO SEASON

BETHEL, NY – Mother Nature was not cooperative for the busy night that was planned for this past Saturday at Bethel Motor Speedway. With just four races remaining on the schedule, this means that fans will be treated to a jam-packed end of the season.

This coming Saturday, September 20th, both the Sportsman and 4 Cylinder Novice divisions will run two features, as the night will kick off with holdover races resulting from rain that halted the program two weeks ago. The schedule will also feature the BMS Modified, Legends, Bandolero, Pro Stock, Street Stock, and 4 Cylinder Advanced classes.

The following Saturday, September 27th, the speedway will hold “Bike Night”, sponsored by Ultimate Power and Economy Sings of Bethel, CT, in memory of John Vendetti. Four lucky children in the grandstands will go home with a new bicycle, with the drawing to be held during intermission. The schedule for the night includes two races for the Pro Stock class, and they will be joined on the schedule by the Sportsman, BMS Modified, Legends, Bandolero, Street Stock, 4 Cylinder Advanced and Novice classes, as well as the Twin Cam 4 Cylinders. It will be the final points race of the season for the Sportsman class, where Bob Morris, Jerry Curry, and Paul Knox can all still mathematically grab the title.

The points season for the remainder of the divisions will conclude on Saturday, October 4th, while the Sportsman cars will take part in the non-points Jerry Reigle Memorial 358/Sportsman Spectacular. Details about the event - including rules - are available on the speedway’s web site at www.bethelmotorspeedway.com. The BMS Modified, Pro Stock, Street Stock, and 4 Cylinder Advanced and Novice classes will run twin 25-lap features with points on the line for each race. The Twin Cam 4 Cylinders will run a single feature, and the Legends and Bandoleros will each run heats and a feature for both INEX and track points.

For all Saturday events, gates open at 2:30 pm, with hot laps at 4:30 pm, and racing set to go green at 6 pm. Grandstand admission is just $6.

On Sunday, October 5th, the INEX Legends and Bandoleros will have one final opportunity to run for national points, with gates opening at 12 noon. Hot laps will take to the track at 2 pm, and racing is scheduled to begin at 3 pm. Following the INEX races, the speedway will host an Open House/Test Drive for people interested in testing a Legends or Bandolero car. Pre-registration is required for the test drive, and interested parties can email tracy.chirico@bethelmotorspeedway.com, or call the speedway office at (845) 319-7908, ext. 1.

The final event at the speedway for the 2014 season is scheduled for Sunday, October 12th. The gates will swing open at 12 noon for the 2nd annual Fall Finale Car Show and Swap Meet. Vendor spaces are available for racers who are looking to sell some of their surplus parts and equipment, as well as any other vendor. The Car Show is open to vehicles of all kinds, with a $200 award for “Best in Show”.

RUDINAS TOPS LIST OF WINNERS IN RAIN-SHORTENED NIGHT AT BETHEL

BETHEL, NY – When BMS Modified driver George Rudinas came out of a retirement that lasted more than a decade and climbed back behind the wheel this season, he was optimistic, but could only have hoped for the success he has registered so far this season. With four points races left on the schedule, Rudinas has four wins to his credit, and he currently sits atop the point standings in one of the tightest battles in recent history. Joe McCarthy heads into the next event second in the standings, just three points behind Rudinas, and 2013 Rookie of the Year Gary VanOrden Jr. sits third, a mere two points behind McCarthy.

Rudinas started this past Saturday’s event on the pole, with Frank James to his outside. Rudinas immediately put his car out front, leaving James in second to battle with the rest of the field. As the laps clicked off with no caution, Rudinas was able to build a comfortable lead over James, who had his hands full with McCarthy on his bumper. When the checkered flag few, Rudinas collected the win, with James second and McCarthy third.

For teenage driver and Legends rookie Christian Eckes, the 2014 season has been one of many successes. He continued to build on his resume this past Saturday as he scored his ninth win of the season at Bethel. Eckes currently sits fifth in Young Lion/Semi-Pro points at Bethel, and third in Young Lions points in the nation. Joseph Graf took off from the pole and grabbed the early lead, only to have Eckes come to second on the initial lap. With six laps in the books, Eckes took over the top spot, and Collin Hoeffner followed to take second. Graf and Hoeffner then tested one another for third, with Graf reclaiming the spot on lap 12. Over the remainder of the event, the top three remained unchanged, and Eckes claimed the win over Graf and Hoeffner.

Week after week, the young drivers in the Bandolero class keep fans on the edges of their seats, with drivers like David French and Nicholas Harnage consistently making their way to the front of the field. This past Saturday was no exception. Matt Addona and Harnage started on the front row, and Harnage got out front at the drop of the green. By lap three, however, French had already made his way to second and began to challenge Harnage. The pair tested one another for several laps before French was able to put his car solidly out front. French drove on to collect his tenth win of the season at Bethel. Harnage crossed the line second, and Addona was third.

Joey Aungst led every lap of the Beginner Bandolero feature to claim his third consecutive win. Sean Verwys, making his second start in the class, finished second, and Conner Piasecki was third.

Gary VanOrden Sr. claimed his fourth Street Stock win of the season in a rain-shortened event. Arthur McArthur started on the pole, alongside Chris Chirico. Chirico took the lead when the green flag waved, and defending division champion Amber VanOrden came to second. With ten laps complete, A. VanOrden, Chirico, and G. VanOrden found themselves in a three-wide battle for the lead. G. VanOrden emerged at the front of the pack, with Chirico second and A. VanOrden third. Three laps later, A. VanOrden took over second, and McArthur inherited third as a result of a late-race caution. On lap 15, the checkered flag was thrown due to rain.

For the second consecutive week, the 4 Cylinder Advanced race went from green to checker with no cautions. This time, Joe Smith found himself in Victory Lane at the conclusion of the event. Smith came from the 11th starting spot to claim his second win of the year. Tim Bryant and Jerry Kingeter started on the front row, and Bryant took the early lead. His time out front was short-lived, as 2011 4 Cylinder Novice champion Kody Welsh made his way from the tenth spot to take over the top spot with just four laps complete. Smith had followed Welsh to the front, and he began to challenge for the lead. Just prior to the halfway point, Smith worked his way past Welsh to take over the lead. Welsh held on to the second spot in spite of pressure from defending division champion Kyle Welsch, who crossed the line third.

The Sportsman and Pro Stock races that were postponed due to rain will kick off the program this coming Saturday, September 13th. The schedule for the night also includes a visit from the World Formula Modified Tour, and will also include regular features for the Sportsman and Pro Stock classes, as well as the Legends, Bandolero, Street Stock, 4 Cylinder Advanced and Novice, and Twin Cam 4 Cylinder divisions.

On Sunday, September 14th, the gates at Bethel Motor Speedway will swing open at 12 noon for the 2nd annual Fall Fling car show. The first 50 cars will receive a free dash plaque, and there will be trophies for the top ten in judging. A $200 prize will be awarded for “Best in Show”. Activities during the day will include Big Wheel races for young fans.

The 4 Cylinder Novice race that was postponed due to the rain will be run at the beginning of the night on Saturday, September 20th.
